Mumbai Water Tariff Hike: Mumbai residents may soon have to pay more for water tariffs since the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has proposed raising the price to address growing expenses. For the same, a legal review procedure is in progress. The BMC is anticipated to be able to raise the tariff by 8 percent a year.
Residential and commercial use are now separated into two categories. The price may go up to about Rs 6 per 1000 litres after the hike. In the same vein, 1000 litres may cost about Rs 50 for commercial use.
According to BMC officials, the proposal was made with the growing costs of electricity, maintenance, preservation, and water supply administration in mind. The civic organisation had also intended to raise the water tariff in 2023–2024, but its plans had to be postponed. Additionally, a suggestion was forwarded to the BMC commissioner at the time.
According to the BMC, the plan was postponed since Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had instructed the civic body not to hike water fees at that time.
