Mumbai has overtaken Delhi to become India’s most forgetful city, according to Uber’s 9th annual Lost and Found Index. The list, which ranks cities based on how often riders report leaving items behind in Uber rides, revealed a quirky range of forgotten belongings in 2024 — from wedding sarees and gold biscuits to gas stoves. Delhi slipped to second place, while Pune climbed to third.
On the other end of the spectrum, Hyderabad emerged as the most mindful metro, recording the fewest reports of lost items. While common items like phones, wallets, earphones, and sunglasses topped the list of lost belongings in Ubers, several bizarre and unexpected items also made headlines. These included a wedding saree, a gold biscuit, 25kg of cow ghee, a cooking stove, and even a Hawan Kund (sacred fire altar).
Other unusual forgotten items ranged from a bansuri (flute), a hair wig, and a telescope to an ultrasonic dog bark controller. Thankfully, losing such valuable or peculiar items is less stressful for riders, as Uber’s tracking features make recovery far easier than in traditional street-hailed taxis.
