The tunnel will run beneath Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan Road and connect J K Kapur Chowk to the vehicular interchange at Bindoo Madhav Thackeray Chowk near Worli Sea Face. A new underpass in Mumbai is almost ready to welcome vehicles. Having said that, the 550-metre-long and 11-metre-wide tunnel is designed for motorists travelling from Dadar and Prabhadevi towards the Mumbai Coastal Road.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), this underpass is expected to open by early May. This is the only underpass included in the 10.58-km-long Mumbai Coastal Road project.
Furthermore, it will allow vehicles from the Sewri-Worli elevated corridor to directly join the coastal road. This design is set to reduce travel time and improve connectivity between central Mumbai and both the western suburbs and South Mumbai. “This underpass completes the last missing link of the coastal road," a civic official told The Indian Express.
“Once open, motorists can head straight from Dadar into the coastal road without using the Worli or Haji Ali interchanges." The underpass will run beneath Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road, linking J K Kapur Chowk to the vehicular interchange at Bindoo Madhav Thackeray Chowk near the Worli Sea Face. According to BMC, the work is in its final stages.
Crews are currently: Marking lanes Installing lighting Surfacing the sidewalls All this is expected to wrap up by early May. The tunnel will only allow southbound traffic from Dadar and Prabhadevi. It is designed to ease congestion at Worli by redirecting traffic directly onto the coastal road.
Once inside, drivers can choose to go towards Bandra or continue on to Marine Drive/Nariman Point..
