Essex Police have launched a sex assault probe and are appealing for witnesses after the incident at the Sunrooms2 club in Market Place, close to Southend High Street. As well as the sexual assault, it was reported that the two men were also involved in a fight in the street outside the club shortly after the incident. Speaking to the Echo, the mum of the female victim, aged 21, has described the “scary” incident that has badly impacted her daughter, and claimed the two men grabbed and kissed her before attempting to drag her into the toilets.

The incident took place at roughly midnight on December 18 but no arrests have been made and police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward. Bosses at the club have insisted they will work with police during the investigation and said the incident has accelerated their plans to move to “members only” entry during 2025. The victim’s mum said: “I feel very scared.

My daughter is very quiet and shy. “This will impact her, of course, but it is more the thought of what could have happened had they succeeded in getting her into the toilets. “She went to the toilet alone and was confronted by two men in their 30s outside the toilets who grabbed her, tried kissing her and dragged her towards the men’s toilets.

They didn’t speak to her at all and were just talking to each other in a foreign language. “She managed to get away as she realised something was wrong and ran upstairs to her brothers. They immediately knew something has happened as she was wailing.

“Her brothers went and found them and I believe the doormen were also holding on to them.” According to police, the suspects are described as white men wearing dark jackets and smart clothing. One is said to be around 5ft 6ins tall with short dark hair and the second suspect is described as 6ft 3ins tall.

According to the mum, her sons called the police but didn’t wait for them to arrive as her daughter was “too distressed and they wanted to get her home”. She added: “It was a quiet evening in the club, so maybe other people in there noticed them being suspicious.” Call 101 and cite reference 42/190249/24 to report information.
