A struggling charity hopes a rescue plan will save it from closure. The Wood Store, in Edward Street, Brighton , announced that it was to close in December due to a lack of funds. However, founder Richard Mehmed, who set the charity up in 1998, has returned to save the much-loved organisation.
He said: “Although I’ve not been involved with The Wood Store since 2017, the outpouring of support I’ve heard since the closure announcement has been overwhelming. “It’s clear how much this project means to the community. Brighton and Hove Wood Recycling was the first of its kind in the UK and 26 years later it remains a beacon for environmental sustainability and social impact.
“More importantly, it’s a lifeline for people facing serious challenges like homelessness, addiction and mental health issues. Employee Rick Woods said: “The Wood Store gave me back my focus. It’s been a place of hope and safety for 12 years, helping me overcome significant challenges in my life. “Now, I want it to do the same for others.

He said: “The Wood Store has been a part of Brighton for years and after volunteering over the past year I’ve seen first hand its potential and how many people it helps.
