By Abbas Jimoh The MTN Nigeria has called for broader collaboration with some Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the federal government on the benefits of digital advertising and the numerous possibilities that it creates for businesses within the public sector. The organisation made the call in Abuja at a breakfast meeting with MDAs and Non-profit Organisations, themed, ‘Connecting with Citizens: Harnessing Mobile Advertising for Effective Public Communication’. In her remarks, MTN Chief Digital Officer, Aisha Mumuni, said in today’s fast-paced world, staying connected with citizens was more challenging than ever.
She said that with the widespread use of smartphones, the opportunity to engage with people where they were most receptive had never been greater. “One of the most useful tools that we have in the 21st century is the smartphone, mobile advertising allows us to meet people in the spaces that they are already occupying. “With 81.
2m Nigerians owning smartphones, mobile phones have become an indispensable tool for communication, news, shopping, and socialising,” Mumuni said. She said it was an unprecedented opportunity for the public and private sector to deliver timely, relevant information directly into the hands of the consumers and the people as they use that space. “Mobile advertising is not just an opportunity, it is a responsibility for the telcos, public and private sectors to ensure that public service information is accessible, timely, and meaningful,” she said.
Earlier, the Senior Manager, Digital Advertising and Campaign, MTN, Eyitayo Amushan said there was a way to communicate directly to people through their mobile phones, which is simply what mobile ads are all about. “In the middle of having all these people gather on different platforms, there are ways we can communicate to them directly to their mobile phones, which is just simply what mobile ads are all about. “We have built those tech platforms, we have looked at the performance and we are also looking at the trend of the industry to see how we compete with other sorts of advertisement channels.
“Which is why we said it was important for us to also engage the public sector and the public as well,” he said. In her virtual remarks, Lynda Saint-Nwafor, Chief Enterprise Business Officer, MTN Nigeria, said Nigerians deserved the benefits of a modern connected world, adding that businesses in the public and private sectors can leverage technology as a force for good and improved productivity. Nwafor also said that it would drive efficiencies where a business were concerned, it would improve engagement and accelerate growth.
“Our job is to constantly and continuously scan our environment, engaging with you our critical stakeholders to identify the shackles in your operations, the pain points that you face on a day-by-day basis. “Together we can work with you to identify ways we can use technologies to remove those obstacles and then close whatever gap that exists in your operations and that is the reason we are here today. “We are here to tell you that we can put this technology in your hand and that this technology will help you attack new grounds and of course define and conquer new territories,” she said.
