Vadodara: Temporary teachers at MS University have launched a signature campaign demanding higher salaries. According to sources, the campaign was initiated by teachers from the faculty of science at MSU, and faculty members from other departments are expected to join in soon. Temporary teachers at MSU are hired in three categories.

Temporary assistant professors with PhD degrees are paid Rs 46,000, while those who have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) or State Eligibility Test (SET) earn Rs 42,000. Teachers with only a master's degree receive Rs 40,000. Temporary teachers with PhD degrees are pushing for higher pay, citing University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, which recommend a salary of Rs 57,700.

"MSU does not follow UGC pay norms. Additionally, when we apply for permanent positions at other universities, our experience as temporary teachers at MSU is not recognized," a teacher explained. Sources revealed that nearly 150 temporary teachers from faculty of science have joined the signature campaign so far.

"Other state and private universities offer better salaries to temporary teachers compared to MSU," the teacher added, noting that many have left MSU because of the lower pay. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with EID Wishes , Messages and quotes !.
