Qatar tribune QNA Doha The Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF), represented by the Family Empowerment Department, on Sunday concluded the cultural crafts preservation programme. The year-long initiative was carried out in partnership with Qatar Museums (QM), represented by M7 — Qatar’s epicentre for innovation and entrepreneurship in design, fashion, and technology — alongside the Social Development Center (NAMA). In a statement on Sunday, the ministry highlighted that the programme focused on Sadu weaving techniques, emphasising the importance of preserving and modernising them to align with contemporary design practices.
Fatima Al Nuaimi, director of the Family Empowerment Department, affirmed that the programme aims to transform participants into professional craft producers rather than consumers, and empower individuals skilled in Sadu weaving to pass on the craft by training owners of productive ventures. She praised the efforts of the partner institutions in ensuring the programme’s success, which enabled trainees to launch new ventures that fuse Qatari heritage with modern design elements. The initiative began with a foundational training programme organised by MSDF to educate women in the craft.
This was followed by M7’s facilitation of partnerships between designers and female artisans to create collaborative art pieces, which are currently on display at Studio 7. Copy 14/04/2025 10.
