MIRI (Oct 22): The Welfare, Health and Community (WHC) sub-committee of Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri has reached out to two families in Sealine and Tudan Desaras as part of their monthly outreach programme. According to the sub-committee’s chairperson Dr Uma Devi, the families were selected based on their poor socio-economic background.
During the visits, Dr Uma delivered a short talk that covered the dangers of plastics and the importance of reducing the use of single-use plastics. The families received stainless-steel food containers as part of the exercise to stress on the dangers of plastic containers. “The containers were donated by a group of concerned people who wished to remain anonymous.
We highly appreciate the kind gesture by the good Samaritans,” she said in a statement. The families were also briefed on the importance of maintaining cleanliness and cooking healthy food for their household. After the talk, representatives of Miri City Council (MCC) Roslan Ali and Dayang Siti briefed the families on the services provided by MCC.
The approach was to highlight issues related to the council. The visit also saw families receiving donations such as dry foods, clothing and stationery for school children. The volunteering team comprised WHC committee member V.
