The Tangerines made sure to get the job done at home after asserting their mastery of the visiting Volley Angels, 25-19, 24-26, 25-18, 25-15.
Rhea Mae Densing proved to be the best among the rest in Quezon’s dominant season after being named MPVA Most Valuable Player. Her coronation night ended with 17 points on 17 hits for a successful MPVA debut for Quezon, ruling the first home-and-away season founded by former Senator and also MPBL chairman Manny Pacquiao and organized by the Volleyball Masters of the Philippines. Quezon withstood the tough challenge of Biñan in Game 1, escaping with a 25-19, 23-25, 25-18, 21-25, 17-15 win in five sets on Monday at Alonte Sports Arena in Laguna, where Densing erupted for 22 points, Mary Grace Borromeo powered the Tangerines with 18 points, while Game 1 hero Cristy Ondangan and former NCAA MVP Mycah Go added 16 points each to back up Densing.
MPVA Best Setter Chenae Basarte quarterbacked that potent offense with Densing also earning the Best Opposite Hitter and Ondangan winning the First Best Middle Blocker awards for Quezon. The Jerry Yee-coach squad, composed of the ‘three-peat’ NCAA champion College of St. Benilde, dominated the nine-team season with a 16-2 record in the elimination round before eliminating No.
4 and bronze medalist Rizal St. Gerrard Charity Foundation in the semifinals. Biñan still had a great run, stunning the twice-to-beat Bacoor in the semis to reach the finals and had a couple of individual awardees.
