SIBU: In an effort to enhance hawker facilities and improve market cleanliness, safety, and management efficiency, the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) visited the Sibu Night Market under the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) last night (March 13). Led by MPKS deputy chairman Abdul Muttalib Julaihi, the visit aimed to foster the exchange of best practices, explore new initiatives for market management, and provide an opportunity for both councils to share insights into improving night market operations. During the visit, SMC representatives discussed various initiatives to enhance cleanliness, safety, and the overall comfort of traders and visitors.
“A key focus of our visit was to evaluate the kiosks designed and provided by SMC for night market traders. These kiosks not only provide a more structured trading space but also ensure better safety and hygiene standards. “Their practical design also facilitates easier maintenance, making them an essential component in modernising market operations,” said SMC deputy chairman Izkandar Roseley.
The visit also served as a platform for exchanging ideas and experiences between MPKS and SMC, particularly in strengthening small trader economic development and improving night market management efficiency. “This collaboration is crucial in enhancing the appeal of night markets as vital hubs for economic and social activities. “We hope that our shared knowledge and experiences will contribute to the sustainable growth of both Sibu and Kota Samarahan,” he added.
