MP extortion scam reemerges

The latest example of Mount Pleasant residents receiving threatening emails was brought to attention of local police on Oct. 29. As stated in a corresponding Mount Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) incident report, the complainant showed cops at their Wando Park Boulevard residence the message communicating an unspecified form of blackmail.

The recipient didn't fulfill the email's requests, deeming the request an attempted scam. Upon observing the electronic threat, the responding officer noted that it was the same copy-paste extortion email circulating through the community in the past few weeks. The law enforcement officer asked the victim to send him a copy of the email for further investigation.
