Motherwell’s heavy injury problems have been well-documented this season, but Harry Paton and Apostolos Stamatelopoulos are back in the team, Stephen O’Donnell and Sam Nicholson climbed off the bench in the 4-3 win over Dundee United on Saturday, and Callum Slattery and Ross Callachan are back in training. However, others like Paul McGinn and Jack Vale are still to find their way out of the treatment room, and Kettlewell warns they all have a bit to go. He said: “We’re getting closer, we absolutely are, and it’s now about trying to keep them in.

“That’s not to tempt fate, but we’re starting to see one or two of them who have been out for such a significant period, and they’re getting closer. “You see Sam Nicholson getting on the pitch, but they’ve got a long, long way to go, because the rest of the boys have been through a pre-season, through 20-plus games, including cups, so they’re going to have to build up that robust edge to make sure that they’re able to stay in and contribute for the rest of the season. “It’s about keeping them in there to make sure we get something from them, because I think we’ve got some really good players that haven’t been available as well.

“In a way you can look at it like they’re ‘new signings’ but I already know what the players, the potential they have to bring, and I’m fairly certain that they will do, given time.”.
