Vadodara: The mother and daughter who were accused of extortion and making threats by consumer rights activist and lawyer Purshottam Moorjani , who killed himself on Friday night, have gone underground. A formal case is yet to be registered regarding the incident. In his suicide note, Moorjani said he supported the younger woman as his daughter and provided for her.
The note alleged that she threatened to register an offence of rape against him. According to the note, the woman and her mother were pressuring Moorjani to transfer some of his property to the young woman. In the note, sent in the form of a WhatsApp message, Moorjani provided an account of the incidents that took place since Wednesday, after he bought a Mercedes car for the woman.
Things went awry after Moorjani took his wife in the same car to distribute sweets to relatives, as a priest whom he met after buying the car asked him to do so. The younger woman did not like this and caused a scene, questioning why Moorjani took his wife in the car. The matter escalated into demands for property, according to Moorjani's message.
Moorjani even said that he was manhandled by the woman and her mother and sought the intervention of the priest he had met. Attempts to pacify the woman and her mother failed, ostensibly leading to the suicide. The mother-daughter duo has gone missing since the incident.
A police officer said their home was locked. Moorjani's wife was also disturbed after the incident. Police are looking to register an offence based on his wife's complaint and take further action.
"We will register the complaint once she is in a condition to speak to us," Panigate inspector H M Vyas said..
