India's most expensive film is not Allu Arjun's blockbuster Pushpa 2, nor Suriya's Kanguva, or Akshay Kumar's Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. This film was made with a whopping budget of Rs 600 crore. Published: December 26, 2024 4:38 PM IST By 2024 has seen an array of Indian films dominating the box office, many of them even even created new records in 2024.
Today we are talking about one of the most expensive Indian films, it is surprising that two of the most costly films come from Tollywood (Telugu film industry). The film that we are talking about today made a global earning of Rs 1,040– Rs 1,200 crore and it’s not Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule, Suriya’s Kanguva, Thalapathy Vijay’s Greatest of All Time. Can you name this film? Most expensive Indian film of 2024 The most expensive Indian film ever to be made is none other than Prabhas’s Kalki 2898 AD.
It is worth noting that Kalki holds the record of being the costliest film of all time. Second on the list is Allu Arjun’s highly anticipated film Pushpa 2: The Rule. According to the media reports Kalki 2898 AD reportedly had a humongous budget of Rs 600 crore.
The film’s major cost went into making high-quality VFX, adding a realistic feel to the film. The film was widely praised for its stunning visuals. Apart from the 2 films produced by Tollywood, let’s look at other films from Kollywood and Bollywood that made it to the list.
Scroll down to find more details. Talking about Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule, the film had a budget of Rs 500 crore, according to Koi Moi news. The majority of the money went into producing the film at a grand scale and post-production work which added more cost to the film’s budget.
The third film on the list is also another Tollywood film, it’s Jr NTR’s Devara Part 1, the film had a huge budget of Rs 300 crore. Once again, the film’s grand post-production work and setup skyrocketed the budget. Shifting from Tollywood, there are four other films made by Kollywood (Tamil film industry) and it’s Thalapathy Vijay’s Greatest of All Time, Suriya’s Kanguva, Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan, and Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2.
Based on media reports, Thalapatrhy Vijay’s GOAT reportedly had a budget of Rs 400 crore, it is surprising that half of the film’s budget was Vijay’s fee for GOAT. Another film of 2024, was set to create record-breaking numbers, however, this film failed miserably after release and it’s Suriya’s period-drama film, Kanguva. It is said that the film was made at Rs 300-350 crore.
Backed by heavy VFX and a grand launch, the film failed to meet the audience’s expectations.
