Pune: A lawyer from Moshi and his wife created a ruckus outside the Deccan traffic division office after their separate two-wheelers were towed away for being in a no parking zone in the area. It was revealed later that the man's motorcycle carried a fake registration number plate because he had stopped paying EMIs on his vehicle loan and Rs9,000 in fine for traffic violations. The Shivajinagar police registered a case of obstructing a public servant in the discharge of public functions and forgery against the lawyer and his wife on Friday.
The incident had taken place around 4pm on Thursday. Assistant inspector Rajendra Kendre of Shivajinagar police told TOI, "The lawyer lives in Moshi, Pimpri. The couple had come to the Deccan area for some personal work and parked their vehicles in a no-parking area.
The two-wheelers were towed by the traffic police to the Deccan traffic division office and penalty imposed." "The couple reached the office and started arguing with the police personnel and refused to pay the fine. Initially, the officers decided to let them to go with their vehicles.
However, when the registration numbers were checked and the truth of the fake number revealed, the police confronted them. The couple continued to issue threats to the traffic police," Kendre said. The officer said, "The lawyer was using a fake number plate to prevent seizure of his two-wheeler by private bank officials after he failed to pay EMIs.
There is also a pending fine of over Rs9,000 for various traffic violations against the original registration number." The couple also caused a traffic jam on the Modern College Road. "We decided to lodge a complaint against them," Kendre added.
