Bambo has clearly challenged the notion that ‘English proficiency is a measure of success or intelligence, particularly in the context of football’. Chunga, who is currently in Belgium, has expressed his delight with the way Belgians, particularly from his former club are approaching football. “This post is not for everyone! I have been here in Belgium for the past 4 days.
I have enjoyed my stay so far. “I have met quite a number of good people, former players, and supporters of all ages. Very nice people here.
“We speak broken English, but we understand each other. English is neither my first language nor theirs. They don’t use English as a measure of success or intelligence,” he said.
He said the club values his expertise in football over his personal life. In fact, Chunga could be saying the Belgians are not auditing his lifestyle in general, as arguably compared to the way Zimbabweans do it on him. “Not once have I been asked if I own a house or not.
They have not even asked me if I own a car or not. They know that these are not the things that define me,” Chunga revealed. He added: “They ask me about my amazing dribbling skills, and they ask me about my goal scoring prowess, my coaching career, my academy.
They ask me about football, well, because they know these are the things that define me. “Balance me on this one, have I ever said that I am the owner of a car manufacturing company, that you ask why I walk around on foot? “Have I ever said that I am a property mogul, that you ask why I don’t own a house? Is honor equal to cash? If it is, should I come here and wave it onto your faces? “I will tell you what you want to hear. I don’t have a car but I go anywhere I want to go.
I don’t own a house, but I have a place to sleep.” Sarcastically, he went on to post: “I can’t spik o right gudhu Inglish (speak or right good English), but I (know) no your understanding me.” Chunga’s comments comes after a recent discussion about the five O Level qualification requirement for one to lead the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).
ZIFA recently amended its constitution to mandate a minimum of five O Level passes for all aspiring presidential candidates for the upcoming elections in January 2025..
