Ton were put to the sword with relative ease by a Falkirk side who toyed with a Greenock side that couldn't contain their dynamic options at the top end of the pitch and an evidently frustrated Imrie couldn't hold back his anger after full-time, conceding that the goals his side gave up were all avoidable. And the Ton boss believes his team got what they deserved after not being willing to compete with a Falkirk side who now have their eyes firmly set on lifting the Championship title. "It's a sore one," he told the Tele.
"But when you don't defend your box, that's what happens. "Four of the five goals are pretty straight forward. We don't do anything to help ourselves.
"You know, the importance of defending well when you come to a place like this is massive and then we go and do that. "The first two goals are really poor. The third one is a bit unfortunate with Jack Baird.
He makes a great block and unfortunately it just bobbles up and Scott Arfield finishes it well. "The first one of the second half is obviously a free kick. It's one of those ones that either goes over the bar or under it and for them it's gone in.
"Then the fifth goal, we don't go to the match the runner. It's a cut back and it's a good header. "We know that all five of them could be prevented, it's really frustrating.
"But when you don't want to compete, you don't want to compete against a good good team that's what can happen to you. "Listen, let's not take anything away from Falkirk. You know, they've been outstanding all season.
"It's two sore ones that we've took off them. You've got to give them a lot of credit. "They've got a lot of rotations.
But that's the difference when you see a team that's been together for three years. "I know it's very rare that they change their personnel. It's been in the same squad for virtually three seasons now.
"They've maybe had one or two changes come in now and again. But you can see it's 95 per cent of the same squad he's had for three years and that's what you get. "You get consistency, you get levels of performance, because everybody knows their job, they know what they're looking for.
"That's why they've, again, been consistent this season. They've been able to keep the majority of the squad together. They just keep coming and they keep coming.
"I'm disappointed with my group because we've never done enough to stop their threats. I suppose that'll be it." Imrie believes his side failed to do the basics correctly against a rampant Bairns as he was left to accept that they didn't do enough over the piece to warrant anything from the game.
Ton did threaten Nicky Hogarth's net but it wasn't enough as John McGlynn's men ran over the top of the Cappielow side. And he warned his squad that his planning for the summer has been made a lot easier off the back of their performances. He added: "What does it come down too? Just basics.
Basics. "Again, like I said the last time we were here, it was similar. "We've got to think about it.
We've got to work harder. "To be fair, we had opportunities and I think we've done well in small spells, but ultimately we've never done enough. "But certainly on the evidence of today.
Individuals are making my job easier for the next season.".
