We have more newsletters Show Me No thanks, close See our Privacy Notice Morrisons has announced a key update to its loyalty program, enabling customers to support Marie Curie through their More Card points. From now on, Morrisons More Card users have the option to donate points to the charity in blocks of 1,000 points, equivalent to £1, via the More Card app or on the More website. Each donation will be transformed into a cash amount and given to Marie Curie, reports the Mirror .
More Card members at Morrisons accrue five points per product when using their card with purchases either in-store or online, and once 5,000 points are collected, a Morrisons Fiver is issued. This £5 token can be used for savings on subsequent shopping, whether it’s done in-store or online. The scheme also provides personalised deals for its shoppers.
Speaking about the initiative, David Scott, Corporate Affairs Director at Morrisons, said: "We are delighted to see this next step in our partnership with Marie Curie which builds on £1million already raised thanks to our incredible colleagues and customers. "Today's news marks a meaningful evolution in the Morrisons More Card loyalty programme and follows feedback from customers who want their everyday shopping to make a difference to a great charity. Whether our customers choose to spend their points or donate them, every transaction now has the potential to support families facing terminal illness.
" Marie Curie, a charity providing support for individuals requiring end-of-life care and their loved ones, has partnered with Morrisons in an innovative way. Matthew Reed, Chief Executive at Marie Curie, said: "Every pound donated helps ensure more people can access the expert care and compassion they need at the end of life. "We're proud to be partnering with Morrisons in this innovative way and look forward to seeing the impact of this new loyalty feature across the communities we serve.
" This news follows Morrisons' announcement that it will extend its More loyalty scheme to all of its franchised stores this year. The supermarket chain began rolling out its loyalty scheme into 1,000 Morrisons Daily stores last year. This year, the rollout will be completed, with all Morrisons Daily sites participating in the scheme.
The supermarket stated: "Morrisons More Card will soon be available to all franchise stores. Coming in 2025, Morrisons More is the first supermarket loyalty programme to be available in franchise convenience stores. Key customer benefits [include] specific prices for More cardholders, points rewards across many products [and] points promotions on some products.
" In less positive developments, Morrisons has confirmed that it will be shuttering 17 of its convenience stores on April 16. The only store to receive a brief reprieve is the Haxby Morrisons Daily, which is set to close later on May 14. Alongside these closures, the supermarket chain has announced plans to axe 52 of its in-store cafes.
All 18 of its market kitchens, 13 florists, 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters, and four pharmacies will also be discontinued. Morrisons explained that a "wide-ranging review" deemed these services financially unviable and that the closures are part of efforts to "help mitigate recent significant cost increases", including hikes in employers' National Insurance contributions and the minimum wage. While most employees affected by the changes will be offered alternative positions within the company, Morrisons acknowledged that approximately 365 jobs are at risk of redundancy due to these latest measures.
