More students, less rooms at Jagraon govt primary school

Ludhiana: It has been six years (since 2018) that a portion of the govt primary basic school, Jagraon, has been occupied by the home guards . The record is also available on the official site of the education department. At the time when the home guard office was shifted to these rooms, only 168 children were enrolled in this school.

With the hard work of the teachers, this admission has now improved and now the number of students has increased to 375 and they are studying in four remaining rooms. The number of teachers has also increased accordingly. Even as the number of students has more than doubled, the number of rooms has not been increased as needed.



Three rooms are being used as Home Guards office that has only 3-4 employees at present. Karamjeet Kaur, an elementary teacher training (ETT) teacher and president of the pre-primary teacher union, said, “We have written several letters to the authorities concerned and requested Home Guards to vacate these rooms for children, but nothing has been done. The entire building comes under district institute of educational training (DIET), Jagraon.

” “We also met the Jagraon SDM and MLA of the constituency Sarvjit Kaur Manuke in this regard and apprised them about the issue.” Block primary education officer, Jagraon, Sukhdev Singh Hathur said, “They assured to resolve the issue within 15 days. They also asked employees present in the office to produce records related to occupancy.

” SDM Jagraon Poonam said, “It is a concerning issue. The DEO has never brought it to my notice. We have called a meeting of all concerned and will immediately shift Home Guards office to another place this week.
