Renowned horticulturist and BBC presenter Monty Don has fronted Gardeners' World since 2003.

Monty Don has issued an exciting announcement away from his role on Gardeners' World . The presenter, 69, has become a staple on screens since becoming the host of the BBC show in 2003, taking over from Alan Titchmarsh . The renowned gardening expert and horticulturist also makes appearances on other programmes including the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, which he has been fronting for the BBC for many years.

But this year, Monty will be designing his first ever garden at the show, which returns next month. He will be creating The RHS and Radio 2 Dog Garden, inspired by his own garden at his home in Herefordshire. The RHS and Radio 2 Dog Garden will inspire millions of dog owners to create the perfect outdoor space for their pets, as well as themselves.

A known dog lover, Monty wants the garden to feature everything that a pet pooch would love, but also be a beautiful space for an owner. Monty will be creating The RHS and Radio 2 Dog Garden with the team at Form Plants, led by plant expert and horticulturist Jamie Butterworth, who is also an RHS ambassador. The garden will be on display when the annual show returns on Tuesday 20 May, running for four days.

Of the new opportunity he simply could not turn down, Monty said: "This is an irresistible opportunity to join with the RHS and Radio 2 to share my love of gardens and dogs at the world’s greatest horticultural event. "Along with the superb team headed by Jamie Butterworth we shall be making a garden that is inspired by Longmeadow and my own dogs but above all a celebration of the way that so many of us share our gardens with our canine companions." It comes after Monty paid a poignant tribute to his beloved friend , who sadly died.

Taking to Instagram , Monty shared an image of a sunset as he penned a heartfelt message for his late pal. The BBC host admitted he hoped his friend Rosie would have approved of the heartwarming move. He wrote: "The end of a profoundly moving and celebratory day saying goodbye to a dear friend - all done in magnificent style.

I think Rosie would have approved." Monty refrained from sharing any further details about his friend's passing..
