MONTREAL — Montreal will host a second straight Short Track World Tour event next week after the International Skating Union relocated the event from Salt Lake City. Speed Skating Canada said in a release Friday that it was asked to host the second stop on the tour that runs Nov. 1-3 and accepted.

Montreal stepped in after the ISU cancelled the event in Salt Lake City because of compliance issues with the ice-level safety padding at the Utah Olympic Oval. The first stop in the tour started Friday in Montreal. Joe Morissette, chief executive officer of Speed Skating Canada, says while there will be challenges hosting a second event on short notice, he is confident the organizing committee and volunteers will succeed.

Montreal is a regular host of the ISU's annual short-track circuit and has also held the world championships on five occasions, most recently in 2022. This report by The Canadian Press was first published Oct. 25, 2024.
