Since release, Monster Hunter Wilds players have downloaded mod after mod to enhance their experience. Mods for the game not only improve the game’s visual quality , but also unlock paid cosmetic changes for free. For the most part, players have gotten away with using any mod within the new Monster Hunter game on PC.
However, one player has found themselves permanently banned from the game for using mods. Monster Hunter Wilds player banned for mods A single Chinese player of Capcom’s latest adventure shared their story on social media platform Bilibili, via Reddit , after being banned for using mods. Initially, others players claimed they were simply playing modded quests inside a multiplayer lobby which resulted in a multiplayer ban.
However, it turns out that’s not the actual cause of the ban. Instead, Capcom is banning players that use mods to unlock paid DLC cosmetics and play with them on online servers without paying. For example, players who attempt to gain access to items like the Hunter Layered Armor Set – Feudal Soldier outfit without pain are at risk of a permanent ban.
With the DLC Unlock mod capable of unlocking the entire Monster Hunter Wilds Cosmetic DLC Pass, there are undoubtedly a number of players making use of the mod. However, Capcom is clearly unhappy with players bypassing the pass’ $49.99 price tag as bans continue to be handed out.
“The reason for this person being reported was that he opened a room and sent an SOS Flare in a public place like the Recommended Lobbies when he opened infinite investigation tasks and doubled the task rewards, which attracted enough exposure for himself. In the end, it was probably more than one person who reported him that attracted Capcom’s attention, and he was banned after manual verification,” another player explained. Right now, Capcom isn’t handing out blanket bans for anyone using Monster Hunter Wilds mods, even in multiplayer settings.
However, for those who use mods to unlock premium items without paying, there is a chance that you will be caught out, and Capcom will not respond lightly. With mods to add in speedrunning tools or increase difficulty, there’s a tonne of options for PC players. Nevertheless, players should be careful with how they act in-game after installing any mod the developers may deem to be nefarious.
