Staff at a Peterborough care home have raised hundreds for a local Cancer Research support group in memory of a staff member. Joanne Gushman had worked at Cherry Blossom Care Home for more than five years before she sadly passed away in November, following a battle with cancer. Staff said she was much-loved by all at the care home, and described her dedication during the Covid pandemic as “outstanding”. Wanting to do something to support a cancer charity, they held collections at Morrisons supermarket in Peterborough, and a ‘bake-off’ cake event at the home – raising £444.50.

They have now donated this to the Burghley Park and Peterborough Ladies for Cancer Research – who raise and collect funds for the scientists at the Cancer Research institute in Cambridge. Group chairman Ann Hanson and vice chair Anthea Rampling visited the care home in Warwick Road to accept the donation. Joanne’s three sons Leroy, Joshua and Aaron also attended.

“The staff managed to collect an amazing amount,” said Ann. “We spent a lovely afternoon with them all, and also enjoyed sampling the cakes they had made for a cake competition.” For more information about the Burghley Park and Peterborough Ladies, email Ann on [email protected].
