Brayden Maksimik starred with both his arm and bat in host Shenandoah Valley’s 6-0 win over Minersville in a Schuylkill League Division II baseball game, Monday. The senior pitched a complete-game three-hitter with three strikeouts and two walks to propel the Blue Devils (7-3, 4-1 league) past the Battlin’ Miners in the division. Maksimik also helped his cause with two doubles and four RBI.
Jostin Lagara delivered a run-scoring double and Brayden Lutz contributed an RBI single for the winners. Logan Hutsko, Garrett Sukeena and Easton Schultz singled for the Miners (6-5, 4-2). The Devils got all the offense they needed with a run in the bottom of the first inning, before adding two more in the second and their final three tallies in the sixth.
Panther Valley 7, Executive Education Academy Charter 5 Brady Jones and Brody Breiner teamed to scatter seven hits as the visiting Panthers picked up a non-league victory. Gavin Yuricheck carried PV’s offense with a double, single and four RBI. Connor Penberth chipped in two singles, one knocking in a run.
Reyes had two singles for the Raptors. Tamaqua 12, Pleasant Valley 2 In non-league action at Tamaqua, Gavan Hess and Noah Mateyak teamed on a three-hitter as the Blue Raiders recorded their 10th win in 11 games. The contest was scoreless until the Bears pushed across a run in the top of the third inning, only to have Tamaqua answer with four in the bottom half, two in the fourth and two in the fifth before invoking the 10-run rule with another four in the sixth.
Mason Ligenza paced the Raiders at the plate with a home run, single and four RBI. Logan Morgans added a double and single; Hess had a double; and Jake Yenser slapped a single and drove in three runs. H.
S. Softball Tamaqua 11, Lourdes 0 Tamaqua freshman Peyton Faust dominated in the pitching circle, allowing just one hit, fanning 12 and walking one in the Schuylkill League Division I rout. Her teammates gave her all the support she needed with four runs in the bottom of the first inning on the way to bumping their seson record to 6-3-1.
Addison Krall led the winners’ offense with a home run and single. Ceanna Gormley helped with a double, single and three RBI and Nico Conahan added two singles. Pine Grove 10, Mahanoy Area 0 Chelcy Clark and Jamie Dinger combined on a no-hitter to highlight host Pine Grove’s win over the Lady Bears in Division I action.
The dynamic duo teamed for 13 strikeouts and walked just one batter. Callee Leffler again sparked the Lady Cardinals’ offense from her leadoff sot. She went 3-for-3 with a home run, triple, single, three runs scored and three RBI.
Dinger added a two-run home run and Addison Zimmerman and Madison Shiffer both doubled. A five-run second inning sent Pine Grove on its way. Minersville 21, Shenandoah Valley 0 In Shenandoah, Cali Laudeman’s three-inning perfect game and crooked numbers were the order of the day for Minersville (3-6) in its Division II triumph.
The Battlin’ Miners scored four runs in the first inning, five in the second and 12 in the third to bring on the PIAA’s mercy rule. That was plenty for Laudeman, who struck out seven and walked none in her three innings in the pitching circle. Eila O’Brien made the most of her four plate appearances with a double, three singles and five RBI.
Grace Sterner and Rilynn Brennan both hit three singles and Payto Frantz added a double, singled and three RBI. H.S.
Boys’ Tennis MMI Prep 5, Wilkes-Barre Area 0 In Foster Twp., the Preppers (9-1) lost a total of four games over five matches to stay within a half game of first-place Wyoming Seminary in the Wyoming Valley Conference standings. Xavier Bleiler, Man Bleiler and Jack Farrell breezed to straight-sets singles wins.
MMI’s Sharan Parikh-Joe Mayernik and Andrew Pedri-Xavier Reymunde teams did likewise in doubles. H.S.
Boys’ Lacrosse Crestwood 13, Lake-Lehman 2 Ashton Amend and Jack Augustine scored four goals apiece as the Comets streaked past visiting Lake-Lehman. Gianni Piccolotti helped with two goals and Kevin Schlude, Christopher Schlude and Colin Lazo each added one. Amend also had three assists.
