There hasn't been a week in recent memory like the one coming up. From new discoveries to one-night-only collaborations, the next few days are looking pretty darned delicious! First is the revival of the L27 Rooftop Lounge Wine Dinner series on top of the luxurious Westin Nashville at 807 Clark Place. On Thursday, April 10, L27 will welcome guests at 6:30 p.
m. for a five-course pairings dinner featuring wines from L’Ecole No 41 , a third-generation, family-run winery that has drawn a spotlight to the Walla Walla, Wash., growing region.
Since 1983, L’Ecole No 41 has produced world-class red wines that are rarely seen on Middle Tennessee menus or wine store shelves, so this will be a special opportunity. Westin chef Mark Vuckovich will put together food-and-wine pairings for the intimate dinner. There are only 24 seats available, so grab yours ASAP ! If you want to plan ahead for future dinners in the series, here’s what's on the docket: June 28: Gramercy Cellars ( Reserve your seat ) Aug.
14: The Walls ( Reserve your seat ) Oct. 11: Woodward Canyon ( Reserve your seat ) Last month I told you all about the Dos Estrellas dinner featuring a two-Michelin-starred chef from Spain. (Speaking of Michelins, Nashville will now have Michelin coverage under the new regional judging that the tire company has put in place across the South.
But don’t expect that we’ll suddenly have a bunch of three-star restaurants or anything like that in Nashville. It’s a big region with a limited number of judges available to make restaurant visits. All of Atlanta only received five single-star recognitions in the first year of judging.
) The meal at the Grand Hyatt was marvelous, but one of the real highlights was discovering and meeting Hunter Briley, a Mt. Juliet baker who Spanish chef Juanlu Fernández recruited to prepare the bread service for the meal. Briley specializes in sourdough, and the two different varieties offered and served with a delightfully funky fermented butter absolutely merited space on the Michelin table! Briley bakes for several local restaurants in addition to welcoming customers into his retail shop, The Émeraude Bakery , at 9904 Lebanon Road in Mt.
Juliet. He’s popular with Nashville chefs who have participated in pop-ups at his bakery, and there’s one coming up on Thursday, April 10, from 11 a.m.
until 2 p.m. (or when they run out of product).
Briley will be joined by chef Hal Holden-Bache of Lockeland Table to offer a Korean-fried chicken sandwich as part of a lunch combo special with chips and iced tea. The sandwich will feature buttermilk- and gochujang-marinated chicken fried in a traditional Korean-style breading, served with spicy kimchi slaw and pickles on the side. Briley will be responsible for the Hokkaido milk bun that the crunchy chicken will lie upon.
That sounds totally worth a little trip down Interstate 40 to me! The Nashville Food Project is also continuing a series, specifically their Simmer Dinners , which bring together chefs and educators to nourish the minds and bellies of attendees. On Friday, April 11, beginning at 6 p.m.
, NFP will mark Food Waster Prevention Week with a special dinner courtesy of their chief culinary officer Bianca Morton and guest chef Charles Hunter III of The Salted Table. Together, they will prepare a multicourse menu showcasing ways to minimize food waste and utilize ingredients fully. ( Banana peel bacon , anyone?) The 21-and-up dinner will feature four courses plus drink pairings.
It will also offer the chance for conversation and community around the table as they honor the ingredients and the farmers who produce them. Funds raised through ticket sales will support The Nashville Food Project and its mission to alleviate hunger in the city, so buy your tickets at the event website . Finally, acclaimed Middle Eastern chef Rose Previte is traveling across the country with her pantry and kitchen team from her Washington, D.
C., restaurants Compass Rose and Maydan on the way to L.A.
to open Maydan Market . Along the way, she’s making stops at restaurants that share her philosophy and cuisine. The first stop on the three-week “Compass Caravan” odyssey will be in Nashville at House of Kabob at 407 West Thompson Lane on Monday, April 14.
The cooking teams will come together to create a special menu for the pop-up dinner that will reflect influences from Previte’s Lebanese-Sicilian heritage, as well as flavors from Moroccan, Tunisian, Persian, Turkish, Lebanese and Georgian cuisine. Here’s what planned for the feast: Spreads Walnut Casik Smoked Tahina Local Bread From the Fire Georgian Spiced Skirt Steak Omani Gulf White Shrimp From the Fields Saffron Rice Pilaf Cabbage Herb Slaw (Salatet Malfouf) The dinner starts at 5 p.m.
, and the ridiculously affordable tickets are still available at the event’s Eventbrite page . Come hungry. Leave happy.
