I like to think that calories don’t count as much during the holidays, and that particular rationalization will come in handy during the first couple weeks of December, because there are some really sweet events are coming up. The first is a Holiday Cookie Exchange to benefit local nonprofit Support the Homies , a group started by Gifford’s Bacon big pig, Nathan Gifford, to raise funds for local groups who directly impact children and youth in our community and to raise awareness for connecting local musicians and creatives with mental health resources while providing anti-suicide and depression support. The event will take place on Saturday, Dec.
7, from 5 until 9 p.m. at The Forge Nashville at 217 Willow St.
There are a couple of different ways to participate in the exchange. You can register as a baker for $75 and bring eight dozen cookies to share. This package includes a ticket for you and one guest at the event, where you will receive four dozen cookies to take home, along with two drink tickets.
The Merrymaker option is for folks who don’t want to bake. The $25 ticket entitles attendees to one dozen cookies in the cookie exchange along with two drink tickets as well as entertainment from musical guests, a holiday market featuring local vendors, barbecue from Backstage BBQ and a cash bar. Register as a baker or an eater at the event website .
Anne Byrn In case we haven’t mentioned it here yet, there’s big news from Margot Cafe & Bar — they have returned to offering lunch service! In addition to serving to the general public from 11 a.m. until 2 p.
m. Wednesday through Friday, Margot will also host a special luncheon for the Les Dames d’Escoffier’s Nashville Chapter on Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 11:30 a.
m. until 1:30 p.m.
This will be the eighth annual Lunch With Les Dames fundraiser and will feature local chef and Dame Anne Byrn. She has written several cookbooks, but she is best known for her series under The Cake Mix Doctor imprint, where she shares recipes that elevate boxed cake mixes to the sublime. Byrn will be joined in conversation by chef Margot McCormack to discuss Byrn’s most recent release, Baking in the American South , a definitive exploration of the history, recipes and stories of Southern bakes and bakers from all backgrounds and walks of life.
Attendees will also enjoy a three-course meal and wine pairings prepared by the team at Margot Café featuring dishes inspired by Byrn’s latest book. The annual holiday fundraiser helps Les Dames Nashville further its mission of providing scholarship and mentorship to women in food, beverage, hospitality and farming, including its career advancement grant program. Byrn is a co-founder of the Nashville chapter and one of the co-creators of the event.
Tickets for the luncheon include a signed copy of Baking in the American South , your meal, beverage pairings, tax and gratuity for $125, and additional books will also be available for purchase on site. The event is limited to 75 people, so grab your tickets soon lest you find yourself cakeless. Tipplers should enjoy the Franklin Holiday Spirits Cocktail Festival at the Factory at Franklin on Friday, Dec.
13. Attendees will stroll the corridors of the Factory while enjoying seasonal cocktails and gourmet holiday treats. Holiday tunes will set the mood, and each ticket includes a dozen sample-size cocktails to sip on.
There will also be more food and adult-size beverages to purchase. Advance tickets are now available online for $55, and if it doesn’t sell out, you can try to buy night-of tickets for $65. If you put together your own posse of partiers, you can buy six tickets or more as a group for just $49, so consider it an easy holiday party to host! The event proceeds support TennGreen and their efforts to preserve and conserve nature in Middle Tennessee.
