The conservative group Mom's For America has caused a stir at the 2025 Conservative Political Action Conference in Maryland, suggesting women who fall pregnant after rape should opt for adoption over abortion. Maria Wagner, the organization's executive support manager, told an Irish Star reporter, "How many resources can I help this person with because that's how I'm wired, how to connect them with resources they need ." She advocated for considering adoption, stating, "But I would just encourage them to consider adoption in people that so desperately want a child that could love that child and give that child a chance .
" "I would just try to impress upon her, give this beautiful child a chance," Wagner said, emphasizing her perspective. She highlighted the existence of organizations ready to support expectant mothers: "There's a lot of organizations out there that could help support the mom and instead of just terminating, let's figure out what we can do and walk alongside you." Wagner remained resolute even when confronted with the difficult choice between saving a mother or her unborn child, recounting, "Sometimes I think about that because I have a friend, it's a similar situation where she was diagnosed with cancer and found pregnant at the same time, and she did the painful decision," referring to a personal anecdote to underline her unwavering stance.
"I didn't know her then, but she had said she got an abortion," Wagner revealed, reports the Irish Star . She added: "And when I think about that, I sometimes wonder, are we just, so is the medical system so programmed to just go to that as the quick fix and have they not, if that wasn't an option when they had fought outside the box to save both a mom and the child." Wagner openly confessed, "I am not a doctor, "But is there other ways or do we just run to that and then we don't think of other possible avenues that could save both.
" "According to their website, Moms of America is "a national movement of moms reclaiming our culture for truth, family freedom and the constitution. " It continues, "We Activate, Empower and Mobilize Moms to promote and advance freedom in our homes, communities and through our vote." Wagner informed the Star that this was their fourth time attending CPAC , though it was the first time they had a stall for people to come visit.
"We just love connecting with moms," she expressed, adding that the group's president, Kimberly Fletcher, was just on stage this morning, and she just wants to let everyone know we're here to support them," she explained. When asked if she had any words for leaders of the states who still allowed abortion, Wagner stated, "I would say that life is just precious from the first moment a life is made."
