
Mezzo-soprano Molly Noori and soprano Cristina Jones have announced that their new podcast,”Disabled Divas Podcast” will air on April 1.The co-hosts will interview artists of varying backgrounds and abilities about their work, the art form they are a part of, the unique demands on their bodies, as well as some of the misunderstandings others have on their disability as it pertains to the work they do. The”Disabled Divas Podcast” will also cover topics such as DEI cutbacks, necessary accommodations needed in the workplace, new funding challenges, and moreBoth hosts are active performers, teachers, and advocates within the operatic space for their respective conditions and bodies.
Noori has been open about how her chronic illnesses and invisible disabilities impact her singing career. She founded the non-profit, The Chronicled Voice, an organization that cultivates awareness and creates change for singers with chronic illness. Jones is completely blind and alongside performing and teaching, she helps fellow blind performers learn about and use the resources available to them.
Noori told OperaWire, “With the help of this podcast, we hope to shed light on the myths and realities of being artists with disabilities, talk openly about the work the arts needs to implement to be more inclusive of disabled people, speak with guests about their work and how their disability colors their career, and we also hope to motivate our audience to mindfully take action in making the arts more accessible and inclusive.”The “Disabled Divas Podcast” is a monthly podcast released on the first Tuesday of the month.
