Bhubaneswar: As many as 15 slum-dwellers in Bhubaneswar, who have enrolled themselves in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana ( PMAY ), have been selected for an interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he hands over new houses to them on Tuesday. The 15 beneficiaries have been selected by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) for the interaction at Gadakana , which is being readied by the civic authorities. “The PM will hand over a total of 35 PMAY houses and have an interaction with the 15 beneficiaries during the half-hour-long event,” BMC additional commissioner Suvendu Sahu said on Monday.

“We are happy that the PM will come to our colony and meet us. We have only seen him in public meetings and on television, but being part of the small interaction team is a matter of pride for us. He will be officially giving us the completed PMAY houses,” Antaryami Nayak, a beneficiary, said.

The 35 PMAY houses have been constructed by BMC out of the grant sanctioned for each home. Each eligible family has been given Rs 2 lakh in four instalments for the houses. The beneficiaries, which consist of owners of the land on which the houses have been built, were identified in 2019-2020.
