Modern Morals: My daughter has been bullied and the school isn’t doing enough — can I talk to the bully myself?

Question: Our 11-year-old daughter was bullied in the last academic year by a girl in her class. It was a very distressing experience for us as a family and I’m still full of rage about how it was handled by the school.

I think she needs to understand the impact of her behaviour, as her parents said it was ‘harmless’ One option is for your daughter to move to a different class, if the school won't move the bully. The bully’s parents were brought in for a meeting but we felt it was all played down by both the parents and the school. At one point, one of the girl’s parents described her horrible behaviour as “harmless”. The girl eventually apologised but it wasn’t heartfelt.



Her parents clearly didn’t make her think about the impact of her behaviour..
