A Kolkata-based model and influencer, Sannati Mitra , who identifies as the 2017 Miss Kolkata pageant winner, has sparked controversy after posting a video of herself dancing in a towel at Delhi’s iconic India Gate. The video recreates a scene from the Bollywood classic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge . Mitra can be seen dancing in a white towel and slippers mimicking Kajol’s famous dance sequence, Mere Khawabo Mei from the film.
The internet is outraged and claimed it to be “crossing all limits”. In the clip, a visibly surprised crowd, including children, looks on as she twirls and partially removes the towel, making the act even more startling. The video, uploaded to celebrate International Men's Day , quickly went viral, racking up over 4.
8 lakh views on Instagram within hours of being shared. She captioned the video, “Happy International Men’s day. May you all continue to inspire and motivate others with your courage, kindness and empathy.

Some expressed outrage over the perceived disrespect to the martyrs commemorated at the monument, highlighting the need to honour their sacrifices. Others lamented the lengths individuals go to for fame, expressing dismay over the lack of accountability and discipline.
Many labelled the act as a blatant affront to national pride. However, this is not the first time that she has grabbed the attention of the internet. Mitra and Hemoshree Bhadra, who identified as Miss Kolkata 2016, faced backlash on social media for their attire, which many considered unsuitable for a religious setting. In the images shared on Instagram, Mitra wore a long black gown with a thigh-high slit, while her friend opted for an orange minidress paired with knee-length boots. Bhadra chose a revealing top with a deep neckline.
Social media users widely condemned the outfits, labelling them as inappropriate and disrespectful for the occasion..
