Moana 2 stars Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho brought a bit of Hawaii with them for the London premiere of the highly-anticipated Disney film. The actors both reprise their roles from 2016’s Moana for the sequel hitting Australian cinemas on Thursday. Set three years after the original, it will see a grown-up Moana (Cravalho) called by her wayfinding ancestors to break the god Nalo’s curse on the hidden island of Motufetu.

For the UK premiere, which followed Hawaii’s premiere, The Rock took to the blue carpet in a black shirt with an aqua palm tree design while Cravalho stunned in a floral princess gown. Johnson said starring in Moana has brought him closer to his Polynesian culture as he reflected on the importance of representation on screen. “I think it’s critically important to be an advocate for representation and for culture.

” “I can tell you, just by experience with Moana, it’s been, not only an incredible experience but also, I think, one that has brought me closer to my own culture.” Filming the movie was a family affair for Johnson as he gave his two young daughters cameos. Jazzy and Tia voiced sassy and fun lines for their Moana-Be characters, a little fan club of kids in the film who worship Moana.

Johnson, who was there with his mother, wife and daughters, said: “Man, I’m grateful. “And also, you know, 15 miles that way, I was getting in a lot of trouble on that side of the island and to be able to come back full circle about movies in the past here to film here and to produce here. But this one is different.

” In a heartfelt moment, Johnson’s mother started dancing to one of her favourite Samoan songs and even got her son to join in..
