Mohamed Salah has signed a new contract with Liverpool, ending speculation over his future

Mo Salah has put pen to paper on a new Liverpool contract to stay at Anfield. The Egyptian forward's contract was set to expire this summer, along with those of teammates Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Salah has had another stellar season with the Reds , netting 32 goals across all competitions and propelling them to the Premier League summit.

With just seven games left, Arne Slot's squad is almost guaranteed their second league title in half a decade. The season has been overshadowed by speculation about the future of the three players whose contracts were due to end. Salah himself had often hinted that he might be bidding farewell to Merseyside at the end of the season.

However, he will be staying put at Anfield, although the club has not revealed the duration of his new contract. Salah expressed his delight at extending his tenure with Liverpool and voiced his ambition to reach a decade with the club. "Of course I'm very excited.

We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football," he said, reports the Mirror .

"It's great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it's going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football.

I had the best years in my career. "I would like to say to [the fans], I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together.

Keep supporting us and we'll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we're going to win more trophies." Salah has entrenched himself as the third-highest scorer in Liverpool history, tallying an impressive 243 goals in 394 games. His Anfield journey boasts a trophy haul of seven major pieces of silverware, including the coveted Premier League and Champions League titles, not to mention the FA Cup and a couple of League Cups.

At 32, Salah has snagged the Premier League Golden Boot thrice, been crowned PFA Players' Player of the Year twice, and lifted the FWA Footballer of the Year award on two occasions. With the Reds' boss Arne Slot prepped to chat later this Friday, the club's statement leaves no doubt about their thrill at Salah's choice to extend his stay. "Liverpool FC can announce Mohamed Salah has signed a new contract that will keep him with the club beyond the 2024-25 season.

The forward, who is enjoying another stellar campaign for the Reds, has committed his future by putting pen to paper on the deal," read the announcement. "Salah has cemented himself as a Liverpool legend since his transfer from AS Roma in the summer of 2017. Now Salah will look to add further to those collections together with Liverpool, having committed his future to the club once more.

" Salah had been the subject of speculation over potential moves to Paris Saint-Germain and Saudi Arabia this summer, contingent on whether he inked a new deal. While the Middle East nation's keen interest in nabbing Salah was palpable, they'll now have to set their sights on alternative acquisitions. Liverpool skipper Van Dijk is anticipated to follow Salah in signing a new contract.

However, it seems more and more probable that Alexander-Arnold will make a move to Real Madrid on a free transfer. Get the latest sports headlines straight to your inbox by signing up for free email alerts ..
