MMDA to crack down on practice of standing on parking slots to reserve them

The is set to implement stricter rules against individuals who reserve parking slots by physically standing on them. This move comes in response to growing public concern over the practice, which has been widely seen in various parts of the metro, such as malls and other public areas. Numerous social media posts have highlighted the issue, showcasing photos and videos of people standing on parking slots to reserve them.

This behavior often leads to traffic congestion, inconvenience, and, oftentimes, confrontation between motorists. MMDA Chairman Romando Artes has noted the public’s positive response to the proposed ordinance. He emphasized the need to address this issue to prevent it from worsening.



While local establishments have previously issued warnings against these practices, the problem has persisted. To provide a more effective solution, Metro Manila mayors have agreed to pass ordinances in their respective jurisdictions. These ordinances will not only prohibit parking slot reservations but also impose penalties on violators.
