MLB The Show MLB The Show 25 is going to be very different from MLB The Show 24. In the first news released about the game, which is expected to hit retail in March 2025, Sony announced its decision to move away from the Seasons and Sets concept introduced for Diamond Dynasty in MLB The Show 24. Fans have been vocal all year about their distaste for the concept, and Sony was quick to take heed, removing it from the plans for the upcoming game.
Sony is essentially previewing this new direction in its Season 4 for Diamond Dynasty in MLB The Show 24. Seasons and Sets were initially introduced in MLB The Show 24 as a way to refresh Diamond Dynasty content throughout the year, but they received heavy criticism for limiting the usability of cards players earned in earlier seasons. Users will be able to use all of the cards they have collected throughout the year for the remainder of the game’s life cycle.
This plan was in place from the beginning, but Sony is wisely using the reminder of the news as part of the announcement about the new direction. In a release posted on Thursday, November 21, Sony shared the following passage : iOS 18.1.

While we look forward to sharing more about our live content plans for MLB The Show 25 at a later date, our Season 4 approach gives you a sense of the direction in MLB The Show 25.” In addition to the unlocking of all content in MLB The Show 24 and 25, Sony also announced a new loyalty rewards concept that will start on Friday, November 22.
It’s called Now & Later packs. These packs will grant a corresponding pack in MLB The Show 25. The concept of Now & Later packs mirrors similar loyalty rewards programs seen in other sports games, such as Madden NFL's MUT loyalty packs.
Based on these early notes, it appears MLB The Show 25 is taking a “we-hear-you-loud-and-clear” approach to fan feedback. The hope is that this concept extends beyond Diamond Dynasty’s Sets and Seasons. Franchise mode needs further flexibility.
Adding all-time teams available for offline play would be a beautiful addition to the overall package. Franchise mode is still a staple in sports games but has faced criticism in recent years for lacking the innovations and depth seen in games like NBA 2K. Having the ability to play a full season or a March to October season with a mix of all-time teams or a complete set of each franchise’s best players would be excellent.
Online franchise mode is a feature users have wanted to see return, but it hasn’t been delivered. Carryover saves are another fan-favorite feature that has yet to return, but the technical challenges seem to have prevented its implementation. Last but not least, Road to the Show needs a complete makeover, as it is currently a glorified player-lock system with no valuable layers specific to the mode.
Road to the Show’s initial appeal was its RPG-like progression system, but recent iterations have remained stagnant, leaving many fans longing for richer customization, more story-driven and differentiators between RTTS and other parts of the game. That said, I enjoyed the gameplay from the most recent version, and the greatest areas for improvement lie in the depth of the features, not in the way the game plays. That’s a better place to be than the opposite.
