MLB Nearly Pulls In Mammoth 18 Million Viewers For World Series Game 1, Hasn’t Been Done Since 2017

America was clearly dreaming of a Yankees-Dodgers World Series

America was clearly dreaming of a Yankees-Dodgers World Series — as was I. The World Series matchup in 2023 between the Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks was an absolute snoozefest in terms of brand appeal, and it showed in the television ratings as a national audience was non-existent. When we got to the 2024 Fall Classic between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers , there was hope from MLB that World Series ratings would recover.

And lucky for them, that’s exactly what happened. (RELATED: Yankees Fans Caught On Video Celebrating Shohei Ohtani’s Shoulder Injury In True New Yorker Fashion) Friday night saw the World Series kicked off, and Game 1 delivered in incredible fashion for both Major League Baseball and Fox — oh, and the Dodgers too, of course. The opening game of the Fall Classic pulled in a mammoth 15.

2 million viewers, hitting a peak of almost 18 million near the close of the contest, according to Fox Sports PR. It was the most watched Game 1 for MLB since 2017 when the Dodgers and Houston Astros squared off. In comparison to the year before in 2023, it’s a whopping 62% increase.

Boy oh boy, this is gonna be one hell of a series. I’m still trying to get over the Freddie Freeman slammer myself.
