Pune rural police registered a case against NCP’s Sunil Shelke, sitting MLA from Maharashtra’s Maval assembly constituency, on charge of violating the model code of conduct during his election rally in Lonavla on Saturday. This is the second poll code violation case against Shelke within four days. The MLA was given the nod to campaign in and around Lonavla from 9am to 5pm.
“The route, timings and area of the campaign rally were specifically mentioned in the permission,” police said. “But his supporters headed towards the temple in Bhangarwadi. Our team on bandobast duty told them not to change the route as Independent candidate Bapu Bhegade and his supporters were there, and their action might cause a law and order situation.
But they did not stop,” he said. Shelke and his 18 supporters were booked under BNS sections 352 (intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of peace), 3(5) [common intention] and 223 (disobedience to order promulgated by official)..
