MKR contestant who works as a butcher infuriates viewers with the way he cooks steak: 'You twit' READ MORE: Celebrity chef Colin Fassnidge reveals the surprising reason his daughters want him to quit My Kitchen Rules By Mikaela Wilkes For Daily Mail Australia Published: 04:37 BST, 18 September 2024 | Updated: 04:37 BST, 18 September 2024 e-mail View comments My Kitchen Rules viewers have taken to social media to vent their outrage and concern over the way that Queensland contestants Danny and Sonia served up their steak on Monday evening. During the episode, the brother and sister duo hosted their Instant Restaurant, The Broasis, aiming to showcase local produce. Despite the casual pub-inspired atmosphere, their efforts faltered, leaving them at the bottom of the leaderboard with a score of 56 out of 110.

Danny, who is a butcher by trade, disregarded judge Colin Fassnidge's advice on how to sear his steak. The evening’s main course, a Filet Mignon with Garlic Prawn Toppers, alongside Beer Battered Wedges and Bacon Broccoli Salad earned scathing reviews from the judges, fellow contestants, and viewers. Rather than searing the steak first, Danny put the premium cut of meat directly into the oven, resulting in a less-than-ideal texture.

Manu Feildel was especially critical, describing the steak as a 'wet piece of cardboard'. Colin echoed this, stating, 'You tried to give us too much and it backfired.' Monday's episode saw brother and sister Danny and Sonia from Townsville set up their pub-inspired Instant Restaurant, The Broasis.

Pictured The evening’s main course, a Filet Mignon with Garlic Prawn Toppers, alongside Beer Battered Wedges and Bacon Broccoli Salad earned scathing reviews from the judges, with Manu saying the meat tasted like 'wet cardboard'. Filet mignon is considered to be one of the most tender and milder cuts of steak, making it a favorite among steak lovers. Danny was visibly disappointed in his efforts and said he felt like he'd let his sister down.

'He didn’t need to come here (on MKR) with me, and he did,' Sonia tried to reassure him. 'That will forever matter'. Judges and fellow contestants were taken aback by the mishap from the lovable team.

'I feel for Danny and Sonia but they should’ve taken Colin’s advice,' one fan wrote on X. 'Ruined the food,' another fan chimed in on Instagram. 'Couldn’t even cook a steak and arrogantly ignored the chef’s advice.

Nah. Cya,' said another. 'Old mate on #MKR is going to put the fillet mignon straight in the oven without sealing the steaks.

He can’t be serious. What a disaster,' yet another viewer chimed in. Fans of the show were left baffled as to why a butcher didn't already know how to cook a prime cut of meat The pair's entree was better received, but it wasn't enough to save Danny and Sonia's score The espresso martini trifle dessert also flopped after it failed to set 'Danny and Sonia put their heart and soul into their meals - devastated for them but let’s see what the next two nights bring!' a hopeful fan of the pair wrote.

'I could not eat that steak - taste like old boot. Rare or nothing. Danny you twit.

Colin tried to tell you as did your sister. So stubborn,' was another brutal piece of feedback. 'That's what happens when you ignore a judge's advice and choose to follow your own cooking technique.

.. Ah, Danny and Sonia.

Nice hospitality, but that's why you're at the bottom,' another said. Other steak fans said they were baffled as to how Danny, a butcher, didn't know how to cook the filet mignon - advice or no. 'You idiot Danny - Jesus you are a butcher mate.

Even I know to sear them off first. Expensive meat too - you plonker,' one critical viewer slammed. 'I like these guys.

I can't believe though that a butcher doesn't know the correct way to cook a Fillet Minion [sic], and that he ignored Collin's advice,' someone else piled on. Some viewers tuning in at home were less than impressed with the show, and shared their thoughts on X 'Being a butcher he should have some idea how to cook a good steak, a different viewer said. 'I like these 2 and hope the dessert tastes as good as it looks.

' Meanwhile, the well-liked duo's entrée of Townsville Mud Crab with Mango Chilli Dip earned praise from the judges for delivering on its 'Australia on a plate' theme. The reaction to Danny's angle-grinder method of cracking open the crab shells was well received on the show for its fresh sweet meat, but has drawn ire from animal rights activists online. Colin, though, said the mango chilli sauce took away from the natural flavours of the meat.

The final course of Espresso Martini Trifle also failed to impress after the dessert failed to set, solidifying Danny and Sonia's place at the bottom of the leaderboard and at risk of elimination. It comes after the 2024 series of the home cooking show got off to a shaky start for some viewers, with some complaining that the program feels 'scripted'. MKR has had some teething issues since its return to television screens in recent years.

'Have I just joined the wrong program? This is scripted Married at First Sight b***hiness, paraded as a cooking show' another said. One more wrote: 'I was really hoping the reboot of this show would not include having good guys and bad guys. It's so scripted and fake.

Take a lesson from MasterChef and just cook'. Another posted: 'All of a sudden they're talking about the crust of steak. Scripted bulls***t' with one more adding, 'This is so boring, I just can't'.

In September 2023, the premiere of the cooking competition's 13th season managed to draw in just 470,000 viewers in the major capitals. MKR did not even finish in the top ten most-watched programs overnight, a far cry from its ratings heyday a decade ago when it would pull in well over a million viewers an episode.

MKR returned to Channel Seven in 2022, two years after it was axed. Debuting to just 500,000 viewers, the show has continued to shed fans in the metro centres. Channel Seven axed My Kitchen Rules: The Rivals from Sunday night's programming back in 2020.

The show's ratings, which plunged to a record low, were said to be untenable and Seven executives were 'pushing' to cancel it in 2020. A source told the magazine: 'MKR is no longer safe. There are people in power pushing to end the show for good.

' However, it returned in 2022, but has continued to struggle in the ratings.
