Mizzou women's golf shines on final day of Florida State Match Up

Missouri women's golf earned its first top-25 win of the season at the Florida State Match Up in Tallahassee, Florida, and more college action from Sunday.

Missouri women's golf secured its first top-25 win of the season in a strong showing Sunday on the third and final day of competition at the Florida State Match Up at Don Veller Seminole Golf Course in Tallahassee, Florida. After posting middle-of-the-pack results on Day 1 and Day 2, Mizzou improved by nine strokes from Day 2's performance to rally and finish in fifth place out of 13 teams. On Day 3, Mizzou shot 6-over 294 as a team, finishing the tournament with a total score of 37-over 901.

Freshman Alexandra Berglund led the Tigers' push in the final round, recording an even-par 72 on the final day of the event. Senior Ffion Tynan carded a 73 on Day 3 to finished tied for 15th with Berglund in the 73-golfer field. The finish marks Tynan's seventh consecutive top-15 finish of the season.



Mizzou narrowly finished ahead of No. 25 Houston and No. 46 Alabama, each finishing just one stroke behind the Tigers.

The Tigers' spring season continues April 6 at Georgia Southern in Athens, Georgia. Missouri men's golf has three golfers currently in the top 25 after 18-holes on Day 1 at The Hooties at Bulls Bay in Awendaw, South Carolina. Freshman Trent Mierl, sophomore Veikka Viskari and graduate student Mattias Varjun all carded under-par scores to place among the top 25 in a field of over 80 golfers.

The freshman led the way for the Tigers, carding a 3-under 69. Mierl ranks No. 11 out of 82 golfers after Day 1.

Viskari and Varjun weren't far off, both with a 71. As a team, the Tigers are in eighth place out of 15 teams with a team score of 5-under 283, just one stroke behind host No. 18 South Carolina Day 2 is set to tee off at 8 a.

m. Monday in Awendaw, South Carolina. Missouri tennis couldn't get anything going after upsetting No.

22 Florida on Friday, as the black-and-gold Tigers were swept 4-0 by No. 8 Auburn in Auburn, Alabama. Auburn dominated the doubles portion, securing 6-0 and 6-1 victories to earn its first point of the contest.

Senior Inah Canete, freshman Zoe Lazar and graduate Lailaa Bashir were the only Mizzou players to win a set during singles play. Canete held a 5-1 lead in her match before it went unfinished because Auburn (17-4, 6-3 Southeastern Conference) already clinched the sweep. Lazar and Bashir each won their first set 6-3 but didn't have time to finish out their matches.

Next up, the Tigers (11-8, 2-7) head home to challenge No. 49 Ole Miss at 2:30 p.m.

Friday at Green Tennis Center. Stephens softball swept Health Sciences and Pharmacy in a doubleheader at Battle High School, winning the first game 8-7 and taking the second 6-5. In Game 1, UHSP put up a fight, pushing the game to 10 innings, but ultimately fell 8-7.

Fifth-year third baseman Ivy Smart scored the Stars' lone home run of the game on a solo shot in the third inning. Game 2 was also highly contested. After the Stars built a 6-1 lead headed into the sixth inning, the Eutectics came storming back.

UHSP (6-12, 2-4) scored four consecutive runs to bring the score within one but ultimately fell short, losing 6-5 in Game 2. Stephens will next compete Wednesday in a doubleheader against Southwest Baptist with Game 1 starting at 2 p.m.

and Game 2 following at 4 p.m. in Columbia.

Columbia College baseball defeated Williams Woods in back-to-back doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday. After sweeping Saturday, CC dominated the Owls on Sunday at Battle High School, defeating Williams Woods 16-6 and 8-2. Columbia College (22-5, 16-4) next competes in a doubleheader against Health Sciences and Pharmacy on Friday with Game 1 starting at 1 p.
