Mitchell girls tennis posts 4-0 mark over two days of competitions

MITCHELL — Mitchell girls tennis put forward a 4-0 two-day stretch on Friday in a dual with Pierre and Spearfish and on Saturday in a triangular against Aberdeen Central and Brandon Valley at Hitchcock Park. Mitchell faced off with Aberdeen Central first on Saturday and won a close 5-4 match. The two teams split the singles games.

Carsyn Weich won her Flight 2 match 6-4 in two straight sets. Matteah Graves won her Flight 5 match in two sets 6-2 and 6-0. Larson won her Flight 6 match in two sets as well 6-2 and 6-1.



ADVERTISEMENT In doubles play took two of the three in what ended up being the difference in the matchup. Graves and Clement won their Flight 2 match in two sets 6-0 and 6-1. Meanwhile, Morgan and Larson won their Flight 3 match in two sets as well 6-3 and 6-2.

The second dual against Brandon Valley resembled the two dual matches from the previous day as Mitchell won 9-0. Mastel won her Flight 1 in three sets as she took the final two sets 6-2 and 10-7. Weich won her Flight 2 match in two sets 6-1 in both.

Morgan won in three sets as well in Flight 3 as she took the last two sets 6-4 and 10-7. Clement won Flight 4 in two sets 6-3 and 6-2. Graves won Flight 5 in two sets 6-1 and 6-2.

Larson won Flight 6 in two sets 6-0 and 6-1. In doubles play, Mastel and Weich won in two sets 6-4 and 6-0. Graves and Clement won in two sets 7-5 and 6-3.

Morgan and Larson won in two sets as well 6-1 and 6-0. On Friday, the Kernels faced Pierre first and won handily 9-0. Megan Mastel won her Flight 1 single 10-4, Carsyn Weich won her Flight 2 10-2, Elly Clement won her Flight 4 by the same score, Katie Morgan and Matteah Graves won their respective flights 10-5 and Mia Larson won her Flight 6 single 10-1.

All three doubles recorded victories with Clement and Graves blanking their Flight 2 opponents 10-0, Morgan and Larson won their Flight 3 10-2 and Mastel and Weich won their Flight 1 match 10-5. ADVERTISEMENT In the second dual against Spearfish, it was the same 9-0 scoreline as it was against Pierre. Larson and Graves both won 10-0.

Clement, Morgan and Weich picked up 10-1 victories while Mastel won the top flight 10-2. In doubles, Mastel and Weich along with Morgan and Larson both recorded 10-0 victories while Clement and Graves won 10-1. Mitchell will hit the road to face Sioux Falls Jefferson on Monday, Sept.
