The Missouri Tigers got a much-needed reset as the 2024-25 men’s college basketball season began Monday night at FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee. It didn’t last long. The losing of last season — a 19-game slide to close out the year — spilled into the new one as Dennis Gates-coached Mizzou fell 83-75 to host Memphis.
MU actually led coach Penny Hardaway’s Tigers 42-32 at halftime, but the home squad turned the tables after the break. While Mizzou couldn’t get its footing after intermission, Memphis took a 56-55 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in the game. It stayed somewhat close the rest of the way, but Gates and company never led again.
