Missing US citizen apparently found in Syria

A man identifying himself as a US citizen, believed to be a missing Missouri man, has been found in Damascus, Syria. Travis Timmerman, age 29, was reportedly found by residents wandering barefoot in a neighborhood just south of Damascus. In video posted Thursday, the man says only: “My name is Travis,” and adds that he is from the United States.

Timmerman is said to be from Missouri. An alert that he had gone missing was posted by Hungarian police in June. It is unknown how he reached Syria, or whether and by whom he was detained after entering the country.



CNN has approached Timmerman’s family and friends for comment. This is a developing story and will be updated..
