Chennai: The mother of a 10-year-old girl, who had been repeatedly raped by a man in Anna Nagar , has moved Madras high court saying that a gang was threatening her family in order to protect the main accused in the case. She wanted the court to direct police to produce the minor girl before the court and hand her over to her parents, provide proper medical treatment and adequate compensation under the Pocso Act , besides disciplinary action against police officers who tortured the family in the police station. Admitting the plea on Wednesday, a division bench of Justices S M Subramaniam and N Mala directed police to file its response by Sep 24.

Advocate R Sampath Kumar, representing the petitioner, informed the court that the survivor and her parents have been running from pillar to post, fearing the ‘gang' that has been operating to protect the perpetrator, and that they are unable to stay at their rented house. Responding to the plea, additional public prosecutor E Raj Thilak submitted that the victim was with her parents and not under illegal detention and, therefore, the petition is not maintainable..
