Staff reportCHARLOTTE — Owen White (Carson) made his mound debut for the Charlotte Knights, the Chicago White Sox Triple-A team, on Wednesday at Truist Field.The Knights (4-1) lost for the first time this season, although White didn’t get the decision in a 3-1 setback against the Norfolk Tides.Charlotte took a 1-0 lead on a solo homer in the first by shortstop prospect Chase Meidroth.
White allowed the tying run in the third on a triple and a sacrifice fly.White’s outing ended with two outs in the top of the fifth. He left with the game tied 1-all.
He struck out four, while allowing two hits and walking three.White had a very sharp first inning, facing Baltimore Orioles star Gunnar Henderson, who is on a rehab assignment with Norfolk and the Orioles’ top two prospects — Coby Mayo and Samuel Basallo. White had a 1-2-3 inning with two Ks.
Orioles prospect Vance Honeycutt (Salisbury, UNC) will begin his first full pro season with the Aberdeen (Md.) IronBirds on Friday. That’s the advanced Class A team for the Orioles.
