As Minneapolis braces itself for a tumultuous weather week ahead, the National Weather Service Twin Cities/Chanhassen MN has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for a swath of the region that includes east central Minnesota to parts of northwest Wisconsin, warning residents of the potential dangers ahead. The forecast published by the National Weather Service indicates that today Minneapolis will experience partly sunny skies with a high approaching 74 degrees, but the tranquility is set to give way this evening when rain and thunderstorms are expected to barrel through, bringing with them a hefty 80% chance of precipitation and wind gusts reaching up to 30 mph; similarly, Saturday's weather takes a sharp turn with rain likely turning to snow as temperatures plummet in the afternoon. The outlook also cautions that the upcoming storm system is potent enough to stir up severe thunderstorms across south central and southeast Minnesota this evening, "with damaging wind gusts being the primary hazard.
" Residents in the affected areas are on high alert as the weather service statement noted that "SKYWARN spotter activation may be needed."Looking ahead to the weekend, it's clear that the aftermath of the storm will continue to impact the area; while little or no snow accumulation is expected, the sudden change in weather will see a mix of rain and snow likely on Saturday afternoon and a breezy temperature drop to about 35 degrees by 5 pm, afterwards, the rest of the week appears to be a seesaw of temperatures and conditions with a possibility of snow midweek that could be heavy at times despite the prevailing sunny spells forecasted for Sunday, Monday and Thursday.Residents are advised to stay informed on the latest weather developments and to exercise caution during this unpredictable period, especially those in the projected path of severe thunderstorms and potential snow accumulation.
