Poised to finding a lasting solution to the problems of food insecurity in the country, the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture is determined to identify the situation of the farmers at risk of food nutrition insecurity of each state, so as to be able to call on decision makers to make intervention programmes to address the situation. . This was disclosed at the recent Oct/Nov 2024 Cadre Harmonise National Validation/Consolidation and Result Presentation, organized by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security with the Technical Partner from Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), Food and Nutrition Security Analysis CiLSS, AGRHYMET, World Food Programme (WFP) It could be recalled that Cadre Harmonisé is a unifying tool that helps to produce relevant, consensual, rigorous, and transparent analyses of current and projected food and nutrition situations.

It classifies the severity of food and nutrition insecurity based on the international classification scale through an approach that refers to well-defined functions and protocols. CH results are communicated in a clear, coherent, and effective manner, so as to support decision-making by linking information to action. A Deputy Director at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and the National Coordinator of Cadre Harmonize in Nigeria, Mr Amu Anthony disclosed that Cadre Harmonize Analysis is normally done in two circles, one in March circle and another one in October circle.

According to him, “The purpose of the analysis is to identify the situation of the farmers at risk of food nutrition insecurity of each state, so at the end of the exercise, we would have identified the food situation in those states and be able to call on decision makers to make intervention programmes to address the situation. Asked what can be done to bring down the prices of food items which has skyrocketed, Mr Amu said, ” This is one of the informations that is used for analysis, high food prices, transportation cost. “Government has different policies they would want to use for the interventions.

I feel that if they apply the right policies, for example, inputs to farmers, it will help and also reduce level of insecurity, it will help because some farmers do not have access to their farmlands, so that’s why we have the crop analysis. “We are using this exercise to identify certain areas that are inaccessible, so I feel when these interventions are done with, security and input, even the transportation cost is another very vital issue because farmers find it difficult to bring their goods to the market because of high cost of transportation which is as a result of high cost of fuel. Amu stated Also Amos Chinyama, the representative of UNFAO, monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability learning specialist.

lauded the Cadre Harmonize Analysis meeting as highly coordinated. According to him, the way it has been coordinated around 2015 is that the government and partners come together, work together, to identify food insecure population, food insecure states, that is important in terms of planning their interventions “The purpose of the meeting is that it will need planning, you will agree with me that planning is very important in terms of formulating any response that you would want to come out. ” So the purpose of the meeting is to sit with the government in terms of planning, identifying the needed areas, once we know the needed areas, then we can seek for assistance from international players as well as meet with the government for those areas.
