The Ministry of Education has issued a cryptic statement referencing what it described as “serious allegations” involving a teacher and a student at a local school. The ministry did not disclose the name of the educational facility in question or nature of the allegations but our news centre has been informed that the teacher-student duo are attached to Elmore Stoutt High School. While the ministry has not disclosed specific details about the nature of the allegations, BVI News understands that they include claims of damage to personal property and abuse among other concerning incidents.

In a 93-word statement released on the evening of September 19, the Ministry indicated that it is “following the proper process, which includes the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, the Social Development Department, and the Teaching Service Commission.” “In the interim, measures have been implemented to ensure the safety of the school community. The ministry is committed to addressing the matter fairly and in accordance with the law,” it added.

However, the statement did not provide specifics about these safety measures, raising concerns about transparency during this sensitive situation. BVI News has attempted to reach out to education officials, including Education Minister Sharie de Castro, for further information but has not received any updates by the time of publication. The situation remains under public scrutiny.
