The Milwaukee Bucks improved to 44-34 on the season with their 111-107 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday night. Playing without Giannis Antetokounmpo (shoulder) and Damian Lillard (blood clots), Milwaukee relied on their role players against a young Pelicans team that many believe is hoping to finish with a poor enough record to get a top-five pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. At 21-57, New Orleans has the fourth-worst record in the league.

Without their two superstars, along with Bobby Portis (suspension), Jericho Sims (thumb), and Pat Connaughton (ankle), three Milwaukee players scored 20 or more points. Gary Trent Jr. led the way with 29 points, his season-high, to go with five rebounds and an assist.

Brook Lopez had a rare double-double, scoring 20 points to go with 12 rebounds, three assists, and four blocks. Kevin Porter Jr., who got the start, had 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Milwaukee Bucks Point Guard Ryan Rollins Made NBA History While Milwaukee’s spot starters performed extremely well and helped lead the team to victory, it was another spot starter, who had been relegated to the bench, that made NBA history. Ever since Lillard was ruled out indefinitely due to blood clots, Ryan Rollins has been the Bucks starting point guard. But with Giannis also out against the Pelicans, Doc Rivers elected to have Porter start because he is a better rebounder.

But Rollins still got plenty of playing time, and made the most of it. In 28 minutes, he had 14 points, seven rebounds, 10 assists (a career-high), and four steals while shooting 5-15 (0-3 from three) from the floor and 4-6 from the free throw line. And while the shooting numbers were not great, there is no denying the fact that his playmaking, especially late in the game, was a difference maker.

What is more, he did not turn the ball over once. And it is this fact, along with his playing less than 30 minutes, that made his performance unique: Last night, Ryan Rollins became just the third player IN NBA HISTORY to record a 10/5/10 game with 0 turnovers and 4+ steals in less than 30 mins played. History for the young Buck.

Recently, Milwaukee converted Rollins’ two-way contract to a fully guaranteed NBA contract. However, it is only for this year. Based on this performance, and on how he has played on the whole this season, there is little doubt that he is a player the Bucks would like to bring back next season.
