Miley Cyrus Sets the Stage for “Something Beautiful” With Release of First Two Songs From Upcoming Album

Miley Cyrus has set the stage for “Something Beautiful.” The Grammy-winning singer has released videos for the first two songs — “Prelude” and “Something Beautiful” — off of her upcoming album Something Beautiful . The clips, dropped hours apart on Monday, show Cyrus in dramatic ensembles performing moody tracks.

Befitting its name, the shorter “Prelude” serves as somewhat of an introduction to the album, as she shares spoken word existential thoughts over intensifying instrumentals over brief images of flowers interspersed with written lyrics. “Like when following an image from a train, your eyes can’t keep the passing landscapes from being swallowed into endless distance,” she says. “Like when holding a fistful of ashes, your hands can’t save the things that have already been dissolved into air.



” Cyrus ultimately appears, wearing the same archival 1997 Thierry Mugler couture she sports on the album artwork, which was shot by fashion photographer Glen Luchford. “The beauty one finds alone is a prayer that longs to be shared,” Cyrus says as she looks straight at the camera. Hours after dropping “Prelude,” Cyrus unleashed the title track off of Something Beautiful , which finds her wearing yet another Mugler ensemble, this time an original custom design by Casey Cadwallader from the House of Mugler.

In “Something Beautiful,” Cyrus walks onto a darkened soundstage as she sings, “Tell me something beautiful tonight until your lips turn blue/ Said I don’t wanna talk about it for too long, baby now I think I do.” Despite its more slow-tempo beginning, “Something Beautiful” soon turns more propulsive as Cyrus belts out the lyrics over distorted guitar and visuals of explosions including bursting lights, raining sparks down on her and her band. Rounding out her Monday announcements, Cyrus’ Instagram account shared that the album’s first single “End of the World” would drop on Thursday April 3 at 8 p.

m. ET/ 5 p.m.

PT. That post offered a bit more insight into the release plan of these tracks, suggesting that they’re the first three songs on the album and its accompanying film. “Reinforcing the project’s immersive, operatic approach, these songs mark the beginning of a carefully structured journey,” the post reads.

“Each release following the sequence of the album and the film.” The 13-track Something Beautiful is slated for release on May 30, with an accompanying film, for which she released a trailer last week , set to come out in June. The trailer described the film as a”a unique visual experience fueled by fantasy” and a “one of a kind pop opera.

” Cyrus previously shared that the concept for Something Beautiful as a visual album was inspired by Pink Floyd’s The Wall , “with a better wardrobe and more glamorous and filled with pop culture.” Cyrus directed both videos alongside Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter, with the trio directing the film. Something Beautiful is Cyrus’ follow-up to 2023’s ‘Endless Summer Vacation,’ which included the hit “Flowers” and earned Cyrus her first Grammys more than a decade into her music career.
